The Chemical Manufacturing Operator performs a variety of duties to support the production planning/warehouse lead person. Safely manufacture chemical products involving the ability to follow and comply with defined procedures; utilizing automated/semi-automated equipment while following defined safety policies. Manufacture and package a variety of products through staging, mixing, blending and labeling.
Primary Responsibilities: Required to adhere to all company policies and practices to ensure safety, quality, service, environmental principles and objectives are achieved. Ensure adherence to quality systems ISO 9001, 5S; follow OSHA and EPA guidelines. Follow written production operating instructions and formulations. Coordinate the production of finished products while ensuring final process criteria has been achieved. Accurately record process information to include raw materials, packaging, labels and finished products. Operate manufacturing equipment and ensure preventive maintenance criteria and schedule are achieved. Accurately interpret instruments and recordings of data to allow for proper process adjustments. Follow all Lab processes and procedures related to the testing and recording of test results. Clean and respond to chemical spills safely, using appropriate safety equipment. Although spills are rare at SurTec, the ability to respond safely and appropriately is critical to the role. Perform other duties as assigned, based on workload and business needs.

Required Qualifications: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. 2+ years of work experience in an industrial environment. 2+ years of work experience in the chemical industry, preferred. Familiar with chemical terminology, preferred. Forklift experience or operator’s license, preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, ERP Systems, ISO 9000, and 5s.
Physical Requirements: Communicate with others and exchange accurate information. Operate a computer and other office machinery or equipment. Ability to complete positional tasks that may include bending, squatting, twisting and overhead reaching. Ability to make gross or fine adjustments to parts, machines, vehicles or controls that require coordinating fine or gross finger or hand movement with visual information. Occasionally ascend and descend a ladder using fall protection techniques to service equipment. Ability to remain in a stationary position for an extended period. Ability to work in elevated areas with prolonged periods of standing or sitting. The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations. The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly, such as safety glasses, safety shoes, highly visible vest, gloves, and a respirator for part or most of the day. Frequently move equipment weighing up to 60 pounds. Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
Work Environment: Consideration should be given to environmental conditions; however, the job primarily takes place in a temperature-controlled building. The worker may be subject to outside environmental conditions with no effective protection from the weather. The worker may be subject to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, working on scaffolding and high places, confined spaces, hearing exposure, and exposure to chemicals. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions and one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. Use of proper personal protective equipment is mandatory. Personal protective equipment is required to avoid the risk of sustaining illness and injury from the use of chemicals and high -pressure laboratory systems.
